Phil Reynolds

April 23, 1942 - June 7, 2016

Tribute

On Tuesday June 7, 2016, Mr. Philip Walkden Reynolds of Oliver passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 74 years.

He was predeceased by his sister Carol; mother Helen, father Douglas and sister-in-law Susan.

Phil will be fondly remembered by his loving wife June; son Phil; grandchildren Jessica, Rachael, Amanda (Nick) and Michael (Paula); great-grandchildren Asha, and William; nieces Miranda (Troy), Laura (Anthony) and Casey (Julien); nephew Calvin, sister-in-law Lorraine as well as many extended family and friends.

Phil was born in Ontario but moved to Richmond, BC at the age of 16. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at age 18 and served for three years. After his discharge he started working for MacMillan Bloedel (Canadian White Pine Division) and eventually became a saw fitter. He married his wife June in 1970 and lived in Richmond before moving to Willowbrook in 1981. He worked at Weyerhaeuser in OK Falls as a Saw Fitter for 15 years.

Shortly after moving here he got involved with black powder shooting which became his passion, winning many trophies for his shooting skills over the years.

He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and served on the committee for 15 years. Phil helped establish the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department and was an active firefighter for 31 years up until his death. He loved hockey and joined a team, playing for many years until a knee injury ended his participation. Phil joined the Oliver Kiwanis Club in 2013 and enjoyed working at the market. He was a skilled maker of beautiful wooden chests and boxes that are treasured by all who own them. He was also a member of the Black Sage Buckskinners and the Saggy Bottom Boys Black Powder Clubs.  He participated at the fireman’s training seminar in Oliver.

Phil was a loyal friend to many and a devoted family man. He loved nature and all creatures great and small. Phil was loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday July 24, 2016 at the Reynolds residence, 156 Carr Crescent, Willowbrook. Please bring a lawn chair.

I have only known Phil these last couple of years that he was in the Kiwanis club here in Oliver but I could see that he had such a great sense of humour. He would lend a hand doing anything there, even helping to put out the kitchen ware if there wasn’t any thing else to do. Apparently he was very fond of old bottles and if it looked like it had been in the mud of the Fraser for many years he was a happy man and if he could add it to his collection at home he was especially happy. We all understood that there was no room at home for any more good stuff! Phil will always be remembered.
