Phyllis Blomquist

May 1, 1930 - January 23, 2025

Tribute

Phyllis Mae Caroline Blomquist passed away on January 23, 2025 at Moog and Friends Hospice with her loving husband Colin at her side. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Edna Erickson, her first husband Herbert Blomquist and her sister Doris Johnston. Phyllis was born May 1, 1930 in Willowbrook Saskatchewan. She became a registered nurse and married Herb Blomquist on December 8, 1955. They moved to Kitimat, where she worked at the hospital and Herb was employed at Alcan aluminum smelter. Phyllis and Herb were active outdoors people and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, embracing the northern life as a whole.
In 1976 they moved to Summerland where Herb settled into retirement and Phyllis became the head nurse on OBN and Gynecology at Penticton hospital. Phyllis was an excellent nurse, renowned for her skill, and for her kindness and support to her staff and patients alike. Phyllis retired fully in 1995 and devoted her time to caring for Herb in his final years and spending time with her acquired grandchildren in Oliver and her extended family in Saskatchewan. In 2003 Phyllis found love again and married her dear South African friend, Colin Jones. Family and friends were everything to her and she was exemplary in her love and devotion to those in her circle.
Phyllis is survived by her brother Gordon Erickson, husband Colin Jones, stepchildren Tanya and Tom (Kathy), Tom’s children Madison, Michelle and Jeremy, dear friends Cheryl Dennill and Jim Bauman, beloved grandchildren Hilary (Adrian), David (Irene) and Caitlin (Peter) and great grandchildren Julia, Gabriella, Ewan, Evangeline and Éamon. She will also be missed by all her dear nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces and numerous cousins. A big thank you to nieces Wendy Naclia and Colleen Rudachyk for your special bond with Aunty Phyllis, and to cousin Raylene Tomkinson as well. Phyllis was a great chef and baker and kept all her loved ones well fed. There was nothing Grandma liked better than to have a crowd over and cook for them, which she did well into her nineties.
Rest in peace, GG, you have left behind a legacy of love and you will not be forgotten.
Phyllis’ ashes will be co-mingled with Herbert’s and there will be a service of interment of the ashes on May 19th, 2025 at the Covenant Cemetery in Willowbrook, Saskatchewan.

Like the morning sun I could count on you to add sunshine to my day. Your love was overflowing and uplifting. You offered me guidance, laughter, prayer and encouragement. I revelled in your stories of years gone by and admired the clarity of your mind. As your body weakened your mind remained strong. You have positively affected my life and will remain one of the greatest people to me. I thank Jesus for you and look forward to dancing and celebrating with you again one day. Until then I will carry you in my heart. I miss you immensely and love you dearly yesterday, today and forever more.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. John 11:25-26
