Rev. Siegmund Redenbach

March 13, 1936 - December 28, 2015

Tribute

Rev. Siegmund Redenbach, born to Philip and Sophia (nee Sander) Redenbach at Oakshella, SK, was baptized at Oakshella on March 29, 1936. The family moved to Oliver, BC in the late 1930’s where Sieg was confirmed on May 16, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. There were six children, Sieg being the second oldest (Barbara, Sieg, Christina, Jakob, Frank and Alan).

After graduation from Southern Okanagan High School in 1954, Sieg pursued a career in banking from 1954 until 1962 at which time he enrolled at the University of British Columbia with a view to entering the seminary. He graduated from UBC with a double major in Philosophy and Economics and later graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Sieg’s vicarage year was served at Faith Lutheran Church in Saskatoon, SK and his first call was to Our Savior Lutheran Church at Chatham, ON where he was ordained on July 5, 1970.

By the time of Sieg’s first call, he and Shireen (nee Saggau), of Fairmont, Minnesota, had married in 1966. This marriage was blessed with three children, Ann Marie (Hamish McInnis), Nancy (Iain McInnis) and John (Krista) and eight grandchildren, Victoria, Teya, Walker, Iain, Emma, Shireen, Charlie and Gunnar.

In 1972 Sieg accepted a call to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church at New Westminster, B.C. While at New Westminster, Sieg served for six years on the New Westminster Public School Board. It was the basis, in many ways, for his strong advocacy of Lutheran schools and his being asked to serve as the first president of the Lutheran Schools Association of BC and as temporary superintendent of St. Timothy Lutheran High School in 1985.

In the summer of 1987, Sieg accepted the call by God to serve Grace Lutheran Church at Osoyoos, BC. Because of his experience with Lutheran schools, it was natural to give strong encouragement to Grace to open an elementary school. This was done in 1990.

During Sieg’s ministry, he served on the District Evangelism Board, the District Constitution Committee, and once as chairman of the District Nominating Committee, as well as a Circuit Counsellor for many years all with Alberta British Columbia District, Lutheran Church Canada.

Due to health problems, Sieg was advised by his doctors to go on disability pension, which he did on January 31, 1995.

Pastors are all gifted differently by God and they each have the great joy of serving God’s redeemed people at the places and at the times He chooses. Nothing they contribute is their own, since it is God Who through His Son, our Lord, has done all things for us. He is “the Alpha and Omega…the beginning and the end” (Rev. 12:13).

A funeral will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 6 Finch Crescent, Osoyoos. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lutheran World Relief, Good Shepherd Christian School or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of  BC.  Arrangements entrusted to Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service and Cremation.
