Robert Cartwright
June 20, 1939 - August 21, 2020
Tribute
On Friday, august 21, 2020, Mr. Robert George Cartwright of Penticton passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 81 years after a year long battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents; siblings Fred and Joan and nephews Gary and Billy.
Robert will be fondly remembered by his loving family including wife Vicki of 57 years; sons Raymond (Brenda) and Gerald (Vicky) as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by family and many friends.
Robert was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was married there and his two sons were born in Winnipeg.
He started and worked for Canada Post as a letter carrier and then promoted to supervisor. While he was in this position he successfully ran and was elected to Winnipeg City council, where he served for a one-year term
When this term on city council was complete, he was promoted to Manager of Health and Safety division in Canada Post where he had a very successful career before transferring to Edmonton, Alberta with a promotion in Management of the Health and Safety Department.
After some time, he then was offered a position in the Alberta Government as manager of a very large department in the Health and Safety division. Bob then left Canada Post to fulfill and be very successful in the Alberta Government until he retired at the age of 54.
Since he retired a year before he could start pension, he went to work for the Edmonton Journal for a couple of years to keep busy.
Later he also worked for the Alberta Government as a loans officer with the United Way for many years this kept him very busy and he traveled all over the province of Alberta.
He then moved to Penticton in 2004 after Vicki’s retirement.
While here a friend approached him to help her out and deliver newspapers all over the Okanagan area…He ended up doing this for a few years.
Robert loved to travel and put on many miles from Arizona, Texas, Florida, New Orleans and Memphis to watch live blues music. He loved to go to live music.
He was a very generous man, was handy, loved to golf and spend time with his family and many friends.
“He always listened and we knew he was just a phone call away. He was someone we would always turn to when we needed advice. He will always have that special place on our hearts”.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
