Robert Bob Mills

June 4, 1933 - January 23, 2013

Tribute

Robert (Bob) Kenneth Mills passed away suddenly on January 23, 2013 in Oliver, BC at the age of 79. The world was a better place because of this incredibly warm, funny, intelligent, kind and loving man.

He is survived by his loving wife Marcia. They were married in Kenora, Ontario in 2000.
Bob is lovingly remembered by his children, Ken, Bob Jr., Jeremy and grandchildren Paige and Vincent, his sister Lynne McNicholl (Earl), step-children, extended family and many friends.

He was pre-deceased by his wife and mother of his children, Helen Yvonne (Bunny) Mills (Cariou) and his mother and father Marion (Olgilvie) and Ken.

Bob was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 4, 1933. He graduated from St. Paul's High School and earned his Machinist Papers from Canadian Pacific Railway. During this time he also joined the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve and spent time in Japan and other parts of the South Pacific and South America.

He spent 10 yrs in Vancouver working as a machinist for Molsons Brewery after which he and Bunny moved back to Winnipeg. Over the years Bob worked as a sales manager for various companies including Cherry-Burrell, Genco Machinery and Specialloy Systems which he retired from in 1999. He traveled for work to the Soviet Union twice in the late 1980's with Specialloy to manage a portion of a large hotel construction job.

Bob's life desire was to build his dream cabin at Ingolf, ON as he was inspired by his uncles who had originally purchased the lake property. His craftsmanship shows in every beautiful detail. He loved watching his children and grand-children grow up there. As a proud camper, he also was one of the main builders of the Ingolf Campers Hall. Bob and Bunny were avid curlers before and after having a family and enjoyed many bonspiels both in MB as well as BC through the years. They also enjoyed many personal trips to New York to see Bunny's brother Len on stage.

Marcia and Bob loved to travel during the long winter season and spent most of their time in BC. Bob and Marcia recently traveled to Portugal and visited Paris where he drank champagne and enjoyed raw oysters to his heart's delight. (He also got lost for 2 hours while searching for a baguette but made it back with his incredible 1-word grasp of the French language: Bonjour)

Bob was a Renaissance man in every way. He was creative and made beautiful creations from wood and metal. He loved making wine, bread, Oysters Rockefeller, and was famous for the incredible breakfasts he cooked for the gang. He could whip any pancake into submission. Bob loved golf and considered himself the King of Pool and held the blackbelt to the end – challenging anyone (especially his sons) to 3 games of pool. He had a terrific sense of humor and loved telling stories and jokes. And occasionally he would sing a little ditty or two. Bob had the gentleman's gift of making you always feel welcome and cared for.

His gentle smile, laugh and hugs will be missed by all who loved him.

A private memorial celebrating Bob's life will be held later in the spring.
