Tribute
On Tuesday August 19, 2014, Roy Lewis Smart of Oliver passed away suddenly in Penticton Regional Hospital at the age of 69 years.
Predeceased by his wife Linda, and granddaughter Kayla
Survived by his Daughter Michelle Laurent (Russ), Daughter Nicole Kriesel (Mike), Grandchildren; Savannah, Alyssa, Jenna, Jaden, Cole, Laila, Blake & Maya, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Roy was born in North Vancouver, BC where he became a Captain in the North Vancouver Fire Department. He also belonged to the North Shore Search and Rescue. He moved to Naramata, BC with his family in 1981, where he joined the Naramata Volunteer Fire Department. He began his own business, SMART Enterprises, which consisted of painting, roofing and chimney cleaning. After a medical retirement, he moved to Alberta to help with his grandchildren, and returned to Oliver, BC in 2009.
He loved hunting, camping and fishing and spent most of his free time on the mountain. He loved his family and his friends and was always the first to offer help when it was needed. He always enjoyed learning about history, science and airplanes.
Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held on September 20th, 2014 in Oliver. Please email kriesel@telus.net for information if you would like to attend.
In 2005, Roy lost his granddaughter Kayla to cancer. In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking to please donate online at youcaring.com (search “Support for Kaylee”, and “Support for Devin”) or to any Valley First Credit Union for Kaylee Kozari-Bowland. These two families have children who are currently battling this horrible disease.
