Ruth Poirier

April 19, 1923 - February 7, 2017

Tribute

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother Ruth Poirier. She left us peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday February 7th, 2017 at the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver at the age of 93.

Ruth was born on April 19th, 1923. She was the loving daughter of the late Miles MacMillan and the late Rose MacMillan  (nee Robillard), and was a devoted partner to her long time beloved friend, the late Peter Martens. She will be deeply missed by her children Wayne Poirier (Noreen Roberts) of Oliver, B.C.,  Ronald Poirier (Linda) of Azilda ON, Maurice (Moe) Poirier (Tina Hart) of Levack, ON, Gary Poirier (Shelley) of Powell River, B.C., Richard Poirier (Nadine Evans) of Oliver, B.C. and Anne Marie (Ray) Higgs of Hanmer, ON.

Dear sister to Emma (Meharg) of Edmonton, AB.

Ruth will be lovingly remembered by more than 50 grand and great grand children, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her loving son Bernie Poirier, her husband Paul Poirier, her parents, and her brothers and sisters, (Garfield, Velma, Mervin, Russell, and Louise)

Ruth was loved so much by her family and throughout her life made immense friendships. She was known for taking only that half cup of coffee and preparing ever so delicious meals. If one ever saw a trail of popcorn along the way, you could be sure that at the end of that trail would be Ruth snacking away. Before retiring, Ruth managed the family business in Ontario for over 25 years. She loved, fishing, dancing, and bingo. Ruth stayed active throughout her entire life. She participated in community organizations such as the Kiwanis, Meals on Wheels, and the Oliver Seniors Centre. The “Poirier Matriarch” just had it all – a true lady, well spoken, a pillar of love, strength, and health. Mom, you have only been gone a short while, but you have now left us with a legacy that will stay with us forever. We miss you so much.

A celebration of life will be held in her honour and announced for some time in the spring.

Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service & Crematorium of Oliver, B.C.

You are now at peace Ruth.
You were so well loved and liked.
Everyone who knew you will miss you so very much.

From: Melissa Maurice
Relation: I'm her granddaughter

I am thankful for the love we shared. I am thankful for the time we had. I am thankful for the time you had with Parker and Grady. They are thankful for the joy you brought to them to have you say you’ll stay for Christmas. I am thankful that we got to have you here for a little while longer.
The trials and tribulations in your life were met with grace, strength, determination and humility. You persevered. I admire you.
Your love for your family knew no boundaries. You loved with your whole heart. My wish for our family now is to carry on with that same type of love. The kind of love that shines brighter than any star in the sky. The kind of love that knows no conditions. You just loved…
Your soft touch brought peace to those who needed peace. Your kind smile brought such joy to the hearts of those who were in the room with you.

I will go on without you here,
As hard as that may be.
I will keep you in my heart and soul,
For all the world to see.

I’ll love deeply and forgive sweetly.
I’ll keep you with me. I love you like crazy, Grandma.
