May 10, 1948 – May 15, 2022
On Sunday, May 15, 2022, Mrs. Shirley Louise Benson of Osoyoos passed away peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 74 years.
Shirley will be fondly remembered by her loving husband, Donald; her nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents and 5 siblings.
She was born in Fort Nelson, B.C. and then moved to Alberta in 1958. In 1974, she married Donald Benson in Calgary. She ran Benchmark Goldsmith Jewelers in Calgary from 1972 to 1999. In 2002, they relocated to Osoyoos, B.C. She loved to be out in the garden and enjoyed being outdoors. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Okotoks Cemetery in Okotoks, Alberta. A Memorial Celebration Reception will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Osoyoos Legion. Donations are gratefully accepted for a charity on one’s choice.

Shirley, you always lit up the room with your great smile and warm personality. I will always remember all those growing up experiences, travels, long phone calls and for just being there when life didn’t always work out. Farewell my dear friend. Condolences to your husband Don, family and friends.

Shirley was a great volunteer for the community, she dedicated many hours looking after the (Pig races and bingo) at the Osoyoos Legion and she called bingo at the Osoyoos Seniors Centre for many years.
