Shirley Leverett
August 17, 1931 - June 21, 2026
Tribute
We are sad to announce that Shirley Leverett of Sunnybank Long Term Care Center passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday June 21, 2026, at the age of 94.
She was born in Foam Lake Sask, and moved to various prairie communities with her parents and 6 siblings. Eventually she moved to Prince Rupert where she met and married our dad Bill Leverett. They moved to Kitimat, Whitehorse, and finally to Oliver in 1964, following his long career with the Post Office.
She was always a quiet homebody, but took time early on to be involved with the Brownies, Elks Royal Purple, and the Homemakers Society. While her kids were growing up, she helped in our orchard tending the 30 peach trees and doing lots of canning and selling peaches to the tourists.
After a small stroke in Oct.2024, she slowed down, and enjoyed being at home watching tv and doing crossword puzzles, always with a cup of coffee at her side.
She moved to Sunnybank in August 2025 to receive more care and enjoyed the friendship of the staff and her table mates in the dining room.
She is remembered and missed by daughter Toni Leverett (Peter King) of Bowen Island, adult grandchildren Riley (partner, Alli), Eliza, and Kayla King and son Bill Leverett (Terri) of Mill Bay, adult grandchildren Caitlin Gibson (Jesse) and Conner Leverett (Katrina Waldron) and great grandchildren Atlee and Archer Gibson.
Predeceased by ex husband Bill Leverett in 2015.
We would like to thank the doctors and staff at Bridgeside Medical Clinic, the caring staff at Sunnybank, her friend Dorothy who drove her to many appointments and outings, and the staff at Nunes Pottinger Funeral Service.
As she said at the end of each phone conversation, “that are the news”
No service by request.
