Sophie Begal
December 3, 1928 - February 22, 2025
Tribute
She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life, her seven children Jean (D’arcy), Chris (Mac), Greg, Janet (Richard), Bob (Lily), Bruce and Brian (Stacey), a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren plus one great-great-grandchild and two surviving brothers Wally and Merv (Barb).
Sophie was a tiny lady with giant-sized spirit, strength and determination. She was born on December 3, 1928, and raised on the family farm in Seech, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg in her late teens, where she met and married Jim Rauscher. Together they had 5 children. She was left a widow at age 28 but managed to carry on for several years until she met Bill Begal, her loving husband of 55 years. They had another two children, to complete their large family. They worked hard to provide well for us all but still found time to enjoy some of the good things in life. They could both be relied on to help us out when needed. They built their dream retirement home at St Laurent where they spent many years enjoying their Happy Hours and beautiful sunsets on the lake. Many memorable fun times were had with family and friends. They travelled every winter to many different parts of the world, with Australia being one of their favourites.
We’re going to miss you Mom!

We always enjoyed being around you when we were both in independent living. You always made the day a little nice just because you were in it.

Relation: Janet’s mother
I have known Janet for most of my life and only found out a couple of years ago that her mom’s name was Sophie. She was always Mrs. Bengal to me.
My deepest condolences to Janet and Richard and to all of Mrs. Begal’s large family. I just can’t call her Sophie. May she rest in peace.
