Terrence (Terry) Clifford Einarson
November 2, 1943 - August 5, 2023
Tribute
On Saturday, August 5th, 2023, Terrence Einarson passed away peacefully at Sunnybank Retirement Centre in Oliver, B.C.
He is predeceased by his father Einar Thorberg Einarson (Beggi), mother Aileen Dorothy Reimer, brother Dennis Patrick Einarson (Pat), and daughters Kristine Marie and Ingrid Yvonne Einarson.
Terrence is survived by his wife of 55 years Nadia Francis Einarson (nee Paulisczuk), brother Michael Reid Einarson, sisters Sandra Jean Einarson (Bill Wilby), Cheryl Elizabeth Starr (Max Starr), sister-in-law Tracy Einarson, nieces Jordan, Morgan, Laura, Annie, and Lindsey and nephews Leif, Stefan, Jesse, and Daniel.
Terrence started his career in Sudbury, Ontario where he worked for 3 years at InCo (International Nickel Co.). After moving to B.C., he worked for BC Hydro for 30 years, travelling all over the province and becoming an expert in electrical distribution. As a professional electrical engineer, Terrence did consultant work for ZE Power in Richmond until he was 75.
Terry was the founding president of the Pouce Coupe (coo-pee) Lions Club which worked together with the Dawson Creek Lions Club to raise the funds needed to help both communities. He was also on the Village Council and the Housing Committee, helping build much-needed housing in the area. While passing through on his way to Alberta, he could see 2 of the 8 planned duplexes fully built and occupied.
While he worked for B.C. Hydro, Terrence was one of the organizers of the Fraser Valley Social Club. A few of the events he helped to plan were a golf tournament, car rally, curling bonspiel, many dances, and dinners.
After moving to Oliver in 2005, Terry became an active member of the Oliver Curling Club. He served on the executive board and was particularly interested in the planning of a proposed expansion to the curling building.
Energy efficiency was important to Terry. He built an energy-efficient house in Pouce when he was the BC Hydro manager in Dawson Creek. Here in Oliver, he had solar panels installed on our roof.
Another interest he had was flying. After taking flying lessons, he bought a Cessna 172 which held 4 people. It was useful when he was mgr. of the Northern Region and saved a lot of travelling time. We also enjoyed taking several trips to visit family and friends in various parts of Canada and the U. S.
Terry also enjoyed hunting and fishing and believed in eating what he caught or killed. He took a meat cutting course and while he cut, Nadia would wrap and label the packages for freezing.
Terry was a very well-liked and respected member of any community in which he lived. His ambition and generosity will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Terry’s name to the Oliver Curling Club, The Oliver Food Bank, or The Salvation Army.
A Celebration of Life for Terry will be held at the Oliver Elk’s Hall on Saturday, April 27th, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.
