Terry Yusep
May 25, 1935 - January 16, 2012
Tribute
Terry (TY) Yusep, of Osoyoos, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2012 in the South Okanagan General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Vegreville, Alberta, May 25, 1935, to Wasyl (W.A.) and Lena Yusep , Terry was a gentleman and a talented golfer; he, his father and brother Rudy owned the Rialto Hotel (Breeze Pub) for 33 years. The Yusep family bought the Rialto Hotel in 1946 and sold the property in 1979, the hotel caught fire in 1994 and was rebuilt as the Burrowing Owl Pub in 1996 and is now known as the Breeze Pub.
Terry attended elementary school in Osoyoos, high school in Oliver, worked for the Department of Highways (Survey Dept) stationed in Revelstoke, owned and operated a import/export company, was one of the greatest bartenders in the Bamboo Room of the Rialto Hotel, and created the business centre of the Ambulance, Lordco, MacDonalds, A & W, and the 7-11 Convenience Store at the intersection of Hwy 97 and Hwy 33. Terry was an avid golfer – proudly offering practice suggestions to anyone who was interested in the game. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and exploring local areas with a creek, stream or lake.
Terry is survived by his partner of 25 years Carol; daughters Nicole (Jason), Carolyn (Michael) and family; Carol’s son Chad; grandchildren Sophia & Bodin, brother Elmer (Gloria) Yusep; nieces Maylee (Arthur) Rubinstein, Danya (Ralph) Stapleton, Chelsea Yusep, and Tiffany Martino; nephews Tony (Carla) Martino, Bill Jr, Dorey, Chad Martino; Carol’s family, Lori (Bob) and Howard (Lorraine) of Smithers, B.C.
The family service will be on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The Celebration of Life for Terry will be held in the spring at the Osoyoos Golf and Country Club. The family is creating a Terry Yusep Foundation for Junior Golf, donations may be made at Interior Savings, Osoyoos Branch.

To Carol and family I express my sorrow at the loss of a fine man. Whether he was providing Christmas presents to the RCMP or providing encouragement at election time he was a fine man. I will certainly miss him and his assistance in the community. I am sure he will be taking time to teach everyone the fundamentals of golf in heaven. May the peace of the Lord be with you all.

Relation: Long time friend of my families
It’s with sadness that I read of Terry’s passing. He was a long time friend of my family. Terry was a very long time resident of Osoyoos and I remember trying to beat him playing shuffle board at the legion and never did, but had a great time. I remember Terry at the Rialto, on the golf course and most recently a few years ago sitting down having lunch at the Rock Creek Fall Fair. He is now gone but not to be forgotten. RIP Terry.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Carol and the whole family during this difficult time. I always looked forward to serving Terry when I worked at the old Rialto Cafe, (known as Jerry O’s then) he always came in with a smile and loved to strike up a conversation no matter what it was about, he will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever, our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
From: Derek & Eileen Noske
Relation: Went to school together
Carol, words just can’t express the sense of loss that Eileen and I feel in losing your wonderful Terry. As you know Terry and I went back a long time and spent many wonderful hours together in Air Cadets and school. I remember the day when Eileen and I came into your office when we moved back to the valley and you were helping to find us a place to live. I saw Terry’s name on the wall in the reception area and I said “could that be the same Terry that I went to school with?”
You replied “Derek there is only one Terry Yusep”
You were so right then and now.
May the good Lord comfort you and your family in your time of loss.
We will continue to pray for and ask the Lord to welcome him into his kingdom. Derek & Eileen

TERRY YUSEP
WHAT DO YOU SAY ABOUT AN AMAZING PERSON?
TY, IT WOULD TAKE MANY ENDLESS PAGES TO DESCRIBE YOU. I WILL TRY TO BE BRIEF.
HEY TY – JK HERE. I MISS YOU MORE THAN I CAN PUT INTO WORDS. HOWEVER, YOU BETTER GET BUSY AND START PRACTICING YOUR GAME ON THAT BIG GOLF COURSE IN THE SKY, BECAUSE WHEN I GET THERE I AM CHALLENGING YOU TO THE MATCH OF OUR LIVES. IT IS GOING TO BE CALLED, “THE GOLF MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN.” AND, I DO NOT WANT STROKES. NO
ELECTRIC GOLF CARTS. WE ARE WALKING. THE WINNER GETS THE “MILKY WAY” AND THE
LOSER GET’S THE PLANET ‘MARS’. THIS IS SERIOUS STUFF.
WHAT CAN ONE SAY ABOUT, “MR. OSOYOOS”, “MR OKANAGAN VALLEY”, “MR. EVERYBODY’S FRIEND”, “MR. BEST JOKE TELLER EVER”. “MR. GOOD GUY”. EVERY BODY
WANTED TO BE AROUND YOU. FOR A WHILE IT WAS HARD TO GET AROUND YOU. I THOUGHT YOU WERE TRAINING TO BE A SUMO WRESTLER. joke.
WE DID AND SAW MANY THINGS HAPPEN DURING OUR LIFE AS FRIENDS. WE SAW THE EARLY SATTELITES ORBITING THE EARTH WHILE LYING ON MY FATHERS LAWN IN OSOYOOS ON A WARM SATURDAY NIGHT. IT WAS EXCITING AND INSPIRING. YOU WANTED TO BECOME AN ASTRONAUT.
WE MET BING CROSBY AT THE FAMOUS CROSBY PRO AM AT THE PEBBLE BEACH GOLF COURSE.
WE ALSO MET SOME OF THE GOLF PRO’S AND SOME OF THE HOLLYWOOD PLAYERS. WE HAD A GREAT TIME. ONE OF MANY.
WE MET JOLTIN “JOE DIMAGGIO” OF BASEBALL FAME AT “ROUND HILL COUNTRY CLUB” HERE IN THE BAY AREA.

TOM FLORES, THE HEAD COACH OF THE “OAKLAND RAIDERS” AND OWNER OF FOUR SUPER BOWL RINGS LOVED OSOYOOS AND THOUGHT YOU WERE A ONE OF A KIND SPECIAL PERSON.
HE OFTEN ASKS ABOUT “YOU AND CAROL”. MEETING CAROL WAS ONE OF BEST THINGS THAT EVER HAPPEND TO YOU. YOU OWE HER A LOT OF STARS IN THE SKY. YOU WERE BOTH LUCKY TO FIND EACH OTHER. MY HEART GOES OUT TO CAROL.
I HAVE NOT SAID ANYTHING ABOUT ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT LOVED YOU. I COULD NOT BEGIN TO NAME THEM. EVERYBODY LIKED AND CHERISHED YOUR FRIENDSHIP.
YOU AND I PLAYED ON THE OSOYOOS BASEBALL AND BASKET BALL TEAM. I AM NOT GOING TO TELL THE WORLD WHAT HAPPEND AFTER ONE OF THE EVENTS IN THE BRIDESVILLE – ROCK CREEK AREA BUT IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOU AND GEORGE (BABE) NIELSEN, IN YOUR CAR, BEING STRANDED ON LARGE PINE TREE BRANCHES, ABOUT TWENTY FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. LOL. I WOULD PAY TO HAVE A PHOTO OF THAT. I know what happened.
IN BASEBALL YOU WERE A HOT SHORTSTOP.
IN BASKETBALL YOU WERE GREAT – MAGIC MOVES.
IN GOLF YOU WERE LEGENDARY.
IN LIFE YOU WERE INCOMPARABLE.
WE WILL MISS YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE. YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN.
