Vera Guenther

August 29, 1931 - November 25, 2021

Tribute

Vera Guenther passed away peacefully on November 25, 2021, at the age of 90 years.

She will forever be remembered by her daughter, Debra (Tim) Nehring; son, Neil (Gail) Guenther; grandchildren Charmaine Wise, Jesse Vetterl, Juliana Winsor, and Katrina Monteith; great grandchildren, Elijah, Talia, and Levi Wise, Mattias and Emelyn Vetterl, Abbey and Isaiah Winsor, Josephine, Isabelle, and William Monteith; as well as many extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband William, and brother Allan Jacobi.

Vera was steadfastly devoted to her husband William, for over 70 years. She taught her children about God and His word and was diligent in her love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Vera enjoyed numerous trips to the Hawaiian Islands, a trip to the Middle East including Israel, a trip to Europe including going to West Berlin and East Berlin and back again, a trip to the Bahamas as well as a trip to South America all with her beloved husband William. She was a bookkeeper for William’s radio and tv store and a homemaker for her family. Vera was a long-standing member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She thoroughly enjoyed being a choir member and singing in ladies’ trios. She was a very accomplished seamstress and made a lot of her and her daughter’s clothing. She also loved gardening and growing her own food. She spent many hours picking up hazelnuts on her hobby farm (she could out pick the squirrels!).

A special thank you to the staff at Sunnybank nursing home for their great compassion and care.

A Graveside Burial Service was held at the Okanagan Falls Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy Cook officiating.

Donations are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Bible Society.

Dear Debra, Neil, & Families, We were sorry to hear of the passing of Vera; she will be missed by so many. She was always so welcoming & interested when we came back to Oliver for visits. I know these later years were difficult ones, but I trust you will be comforted by the special memories of a wonderful woman – Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Friend and can look forward to seeing her again!

We are so sorry to hear of Vera’s passing. She and Bill were great friends of my parents even looked after them for a about a month one time. Vera was so easy to talk with. I’ll miss our long chats. She was such a devoted wife and mother. Every night, she and Bill would tell each other they were glad they married each other. And she was steadfast in her strong faith. I remember her love of gardening, both fruit and flower, picking up hazelnuts with her, being given some of her bounty. She and Bill were always so welcoming and hospitable. For me it’s not goodbye but see you on the other side Vera.

Relation: niece

So sorry to hear that my lovely aunt Vera has died. Although in the last many years we have not seen each other much, I always think of her as my warm, funny, sweet “glamorous” auntie. She always had a style about her that I admired and a way of engaging that made you feel special. Goodbye, dear Vera, a life well lived. You persevered through many challenges and adversities with what I perceived as great bravery and strength and you always seemed to clearly appreciated deeply all the joys that were given to you. You have been and still are an inspiration to so many, including me. Love, Pauline
