Tribute

On Monday, April 6, 2015, Vera Rohaly passed away at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 73 years.  Vera was predeceased by John Rohaly, her husband of forty  years, and by her brother Stan and sister Helen. 

Vera was born in Peremyshlany, Ukraine in 1942, the youngest of four children.  The family immigrated to Canada in 1948, working a sugar beet farm for five years as a condition of immigration.

Vera moved from Hardieville to Calgary in 1962 and became a Canadian citizen in 1964. There she met John Rohaly, and they were married in 1968 until his death in 2009.  She worked in a large advertising agency in Calgary. After obtaining a degree in Management Development and Administration, she advanced to positions as Media Director and Recruitment Co-ordinator.

Vera and John moved to Osoyoos in 1993, joining both the Ukrainian Catholic Church (Penticton) and St. Anne’s Catholic Church (Osoyoos). She joined the Catholic Women’s League, and enjoyed their loving welcome. She became the volunteer co-ordinator of the Osoyoos Canadian Volunteer Income Tax Program, providing free income tax assistance to low income people. Vera also served as a regular volunteer at Mariposa, assisting at Communion days and at bingos.

Vera loved her family and friends, and appreciated all their generosity and many kindnesses to her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, followed by interment at Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery.
