Verne Donald
June 2, 1958 - May 21, 2022
Tribute
On Saturday, May 21, 2022, Mr. Verne Allan Donald of Penticton passed away peacefully at the age of 63 years, surrounded by family after losing his battle with ALS.
He was predeceased by his father, James Donald and father-in-Law, Lionel Conant
Verne will be fondly remembered by his loving family including wife, Cindy; three sons, Morgan, Craig, and Niall; daughters-in-law, Jezzamine (Craig), Melissa (Niall); granddaughter, Olivia; mother, Mary Donald; sisters, Marilyn and Valerie; brother, Brendon (Kelly); mother-in-law, Margaret; sister-in-law, Louise, and brothers-in-law, Ralph (Dianna) and Lionel (Rosemarie) as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Although many of these people were related to him through marriage, he had been a big part of their lives for 42 years and they mourn his loss as much as anyone else.
He worked for seventeen years at the Vernon Lodge Hotel, starting out as a cook’s apprentice, becoming a line cook, prep cook, sous chef and for a time, executive chef. Before moving to Saskatchewan and totally changing careers, he became a plumber, specializing in HVAC services. In a 25-year span working first for Kee Sheet Metal, then Goodheart Electrical and Plumbing and finally for Impact Energy Services before ALS took away his ability to work.
Verne loved to travel, having been to Hawaii and Mexico multiple times and well as going to Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Philippines, France and exploring his roots through Scotland and England. He enjoyed Zip-lining and was busy knocking off places in the world where he had done that.
Verne became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at his baptism in 1978 And remained an active member right up until his death, spending the months of February and March 2022 in the auxiliary pioneer service (public ministry work) writing letters of encouragement to others.
He loved fishing, camping, and hunting, basically any excuse to tromp through the bush. On the other hand, he also logged many hours “stuck under a cat” in his recliner with his massive fur buddy Tio.
Donations are gratefully accepted for Moog & Friends Hospice House and or the ALS Society of BC.
