Tribute
Walter was born Henry Walter Herbert Bork on January 9th, 1936 in Penticton, B.C. to John and Frances Bork. Walter was raised in Oliver, B.C. on an orchard and attended S.O.S.S., and then went out on his own at an early age, he first started out in Logging and Construction. Walter met his future wife Joyce Dixon on a blind date and it was love at first sight, they were married in less than six months on October 24, 1957, and started a family a year later with the arrival of their first daughter Sharie in 1958, then a son Warren in 1963, then another daughter Kathleen in 1965. Walter started out his driving career with Greyhound and was with them for 12 years, then in 1973, looking for a better life for his family, and a bit of adventure, he moved the family north to Whitehorse, where he drove for White Pass for about 5 years, then moved down to the Okanagan, where he drove for Arrow Transport for about 10 years, then is was back to the Yukon and drove for Yukon Alaska Transport….He loved the Yukon and the beauty it offered, he loved to fish and camp, and was always trying to entice family and friends to venture north on vacation and see what he loved about the Yukon. Walter took great pride in his driving skills and ability to do so, and loved driving for a living. Walter was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, he loved old time music and loved to dance, and was a good dancer, he taught his daughters as well. He had a green thumb, and enjoyed gardening, also took great pride in his beef steak tomatoes he loved to grow and show off. A short time after Walter retired, he suffered a stroke, and a final move to the Yukon in 2007 to be closer to his kids. Walter resided in a nursing home for the last 3 and half years where he passed away after a short battle with cancer on September 16th with his family at his side.
