William (Bill) Wolfe

April 17, 1931 - December 21, 2021

Tribute

Bill Wolfe of Osoyoos passed away at Oliver Hospital at age 90 with family at his side.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lorna in 1999 and by brothers Ozzie, Ken, Keith, Glen, Jim and Alan and sisters Ruth and Erva.

Bill is survived by daughters Lori (Peter) and Shelley (Stu) and son Brent (Sandy), grandchildren Brandon (Clare), Loren (Chris), Trevor, Alix, and great-granddaughter Rumi.  Also survived by brother Elgin, Lorna’s sister Gladys, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Virden, Manitoba to John and Vera (English) Wolfe.  He was raised on the farm until the family moved to Winnipeg during the Depression. His youth was spent playing hockey, football and baseball and swimming in the Red River.  His favourite place to be was at the Delta Marsh where he, his brothers and friends had a hunting “shack”.

Bill learned his trade as a Lather and was working in Dryden, Ontario when he met Lorna.  They were married in 1957 in Lorna’s hometown of Clanwilliam, Man. and resided in Winnipeg, where Lori and Shelley were born.  Bill’s trade often took him away from the family while he worked on sites across the prairies and to the west coast, as far as Haida Gwaii.  Following year-long stops in Edmonton and Courtenay, in 1966 the family relocated to Richmond, B.C. where Bill worked on the completion of the ‘new’ Vancouver International Airport.  Son Brent was born in Richmond.

After residing in Richmond for almost 50 years, in 2014 Bill moved to Osoyoos to be near family and became a resident at Sunshine Ridge.

Bill was also a skilled artist and he enjoyed oil painting, particularly of birds and wildlife.  He also loved listening to music of all genres, baking bread, making furniture and spending quality time with his kids and grandkids, and more recently with his new great-granddaughter.

We will miss our Dad and Gramps and our family would like to thank Tracy and staff at Sunshine Ridge for their support and friendship to Bill over the past 8 years.  We would also like to express our gratitude to Jaret and the nursing staff at Oliver Hospital for their compassionate care during Dad’s brief stay.

No service will be held at Bill’s request and flowers are respectfully declined, however as he was a life-long supporter of many organizations, a contribution in his memory to one of his favourites, including Heart and Stroke Foundation, Red Cross, Royal Canadian Legion and Canadian Wildlife Federation would be appreciated.
