Yvonne Lewis

September 20, 1958 - November 28, 2017

Tribute

Yvonne Elizabeth Lewis was born in Chilliwack on September 20th, 1958 and passed away at her home in Osoyoos on November 28th, 2017, after a brave fight with Cancer that spanned over 5 years. She was surrounded by her four daughters Rachel, Esther, Katelyn and Joy, and grand daughter, Israa.

Yvonne grew up in Trail, BC with her adoptive parents, Robert and Elizabeth Lewis, and her older sister Maureen. Life’s adventures took her from living in Trail to Calgary, Cranbrook, Kelowna, Smithers, Lillooet, Ashcroft and finally, Osoyoos.

Yvonne was a stay at home mom for many years. While her children were still young she courageously went back to school and studied to become a teacher. For fourteen years Yvonne taught elementary, middle and high school in the Smithers, Lillooet, Ashcroft and Oliver-Osoyoos districts. She was a creative and inspirational teacher who always built strong connections with her students.

Yvonne loved to sing and listen to any and all styles of music. She would often burst into song at any time, and found a way to fit song lyrics into just about any of life’s moments. She enjoyed singing with the Sage Valley Voices for the last 2 years.

In recent years Yvonne had the opportunity to connect with her birth family, including her mother Evelyn, step father Oswald, sister Charlotte and brother Kevin.

Yvonne’s last vacation was a check mark off her bucket list- a cruise. She especially enjoyed sailing underneath the Golden Gate Bridge!

Yvonne’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the health care team who went above and beyond to look after her. Also thank you to the Desert Valley Hospice Society and the Palliative care team.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Yvonne’s name to the following organizations:

-Watoto Canada

-Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Yvonne’s celebration of life service will be held on December 28th, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Oliver Alliance Church.

My late husband and Yvonne met at the Hospice support group they both attended. The two of them formed a special bond. I found it a privilege to meet her on several occasions. She was a lovely person and will be missed.

From: Johanna Stuart

I had the pleasure of knowing Yvonne. She was an energetic woman with a big smile and loving heart. I was in an online course with her and always enjoyed her thoughtful contributions to group discussions. She truly was a passionate educator and many children are lucky to have been under her care. To my dear friend Rachel and her family- wishing you all can find peace and comfort in happy memories during this delicate time.
