Tribute

Alex Duncan Grant, born March 6th, 1931 in Swan River, Manitoba to Duncan and Mabel Grant and passed away on November 30, 2024, at McKinney Place Extended Care.

Alex had three sisters, Jeanette, Merle and Leighla and one brother Ross.

He lived on the family farm as a youngster before moving with the family to live on an acreage in Burnaby, BC. Where one of his first jobs was that of a caddy at the Vancouver Golf Club. Then he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Sylvia Belle Morey. They were married on June 27th of 1953 and raised two children, a son, Douglas and a daughter, Donna.

Alex worked as a conductor for CP Rail in Cranbrook for a few years until a layoff occurred and he moved the family to Surrey, BC where he worked for Timberland Forest Products (Weldwood) for 30 years as a lumber grader. Alex finally retired and moved to Osoyoos, BC where he lived happily until his passing. His favorite hobbies included gardening, camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed many years of visits with family and friends during times spent around his backyard BBQ’s.

Alex is will be fondly remembered by his loving family including his son, Douglas (Sally); daughter, Donna (Ron) Riddoch; his grandchildren; Chris Grant of Surrey, BC, Deanna Lauer (Brandon), Surrey, BC and Alysha Moore (Taylor) of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta; great-grandchildren, Eli and Lucy Lauer, of Surrey, BC and Jamie and Nikki Moore of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

His guilty pleasures were Whiskey, Poker and Gardening, and he was an expert at all three.
