Angela Silbernagel

November 15, 1923 - October 15, 2014

Tribute

On Wednesday, October 15, 2014, Angela Silbernagel, age 90, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family, at the Oliver General Hospital. Survived by seven children, Robert Silbernagel, Lynn Silbernagel-Allen (Rick), Brian Silbernagel, Ken Silbernagel (Sandra Lee), Shirley Saunders (Erik), Mark Silbernagel (Audrey), Matthew Silbernagel (Sandra), one foster son, Albert Metz (Louise), 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Angela was predeceased by husband Andrew Silbernagel, second husband Harry Alaric, three daughters, Charlotte Anne, Patricia, Dianne, three sisters, five brothers and grandson Jason.

Born in Vernon, BC, one of 9 children, to Michael and Katherina Schleppe. Angela resided in Oliver since moving from Kelowna with Andrew and family in 1951. In addition to raising a large family, Angela worked on the family orchard and farm and was an avid gardener. She was employed by Sunrype Products in Oliver, and was an entrepreneur, running her own Bernina sewing machine sales, repair and servicing business, and Sarah Coventry jewelry and Artex paint businesses. For a time she and husband Andy partnered on a pilot car business.  Angela was a woman of strong faith who was the heart of her family. She was a survivor of asthma, colon cancer, a quadruple bypass heart surgery, and the loss of family and spouses. Despite all of that, she had an amazingly resilient strength of spirit and wonderful sense of humour.

Over the years Angela was actively involved with the C.W. L. (Catholic Women’s League), Meals on Wheels and the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. In her spare time she enjoyed 5 pin bowling, fishing, crocheting, Artex painting, ceramics, gardening, and of course, spending time with her growing extended family. Angela enjoyed a trip to Hawaii with her sister Madge, as well as trips to Couer d’Alene, Idaho, California, and other U.S. destinations.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Mark Hamilton for his care of Angela for many years. Also, sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and management of Heritage House, and the nursing staff at SOGH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Angela’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family is grateful for the support and professionalism of Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Services.

Prayers will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Thursday October 23, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Neil Lustado at 11:00 A.M. Friday October 24, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church.

We are so sorry to hear of Aunt Angie’s passing. She will always be remembered as the “heart” of the family. It’s never easy to lose a parent but I know she will live on in all who knew her. I remember visiting at the family orchard when I was a little girl and loving all the cousins and family fun and seeing fruit bats for the first time. Great memories. Love you all.
