Cornelius (Corney) DeCock

February 13, 1938 - February 26, 2023

Tribute

On Sunday February 26, 2023 Cornelius (Corney) DeCock of Osoyoos passed peacefully to be with God. He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda, daughter Donna Heinrich (Dan), son Doug DeCock (Joan), daughter Marilyn Gauthier, and daughter Carol Lee, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother Ted DeCock (Joyce) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; he was predeceased by his son William DeCock (Tammy).

Corney was born in Kipp, Alberta as the third of four children. His mother and father were dairy and cattle farmers in Armstrong, BC and Corney participated in 4-H during his youth. He started working for CPR rail after school and traveled frequently, finally settling in Osoyoos in 1955. He married Linda Missal from Vernon in 1956 and they have lived in Osoyoos ever since. When CPR ended operations in Osoyoos, Corney ventured out on his own and started a very successful painting business which he operated for over 20 years; in later years Linda was his assistant. Corney and Linda had five children; Donna, Doug, Marilyn, Willie, and Carol. Corney was very involved in the community as a volunteer fireman and played baseball, curling, and golf. However, Corney’s true passion was the great outdoors and he spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and hiking. Even into his mid 80’s, one could find Corney in the great outdoors searching for the perfect buck or the biggest fish. After retirement Corney and Linda enjoyed traveling to warmer climates like Hawaii, the Dominican, and Florida.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 1st, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church (6 Finch Crescent, Osoyoos, BC). Interment and committal will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A luncheon and Celebration of Life will take place in the church hall after the interment.

The family kindly requests donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

Dear Linda,
We just read the news concerning Corney’s passing and we are very saddened to hear he will no longer be greeting us on our frequent walks along Haynes Point. Always positive, great sense of humor, an absolute inspiration to all those who knew him. We knew he was struggling with health issues but he never complained and always felt things would work out. We are going to miss him, as will many others in our neighborhood. We send out most sincere condolences to you and the rest of your family.
