Donald Mepham

July 12, 1937 - December 6, 2016

Tribute

Sadly our amazing dad and papa left us on the morning of December 6th with his daughters Cynthia and Andrea at his bedside. Don is survived by his wife of 58 years Joanne, his daughters Cynthia and Andrea, their husbands Cam and Jon and his five grandchildren Madison, Jackson, Molly, Taylor and Tye. Don was predeceased by his daughter Sandra in December of 1986. Don was a hard-working orchardist and deeply committed member of the South Okanagan community.

Don served as a CF -100 Navigator in the RCAF from 1957 to 1964.Don met and married his wife, Joanne in 1958 in Winnipeg before being deployed oversees to Germany. Don eventually returned to the Okanagan Valley and purchased an Orchard in Osoyoos in 1964. Don was a prominent member of the BC Tree Fruits Growers Association for many years serving in several roles as well as an inspector for ALR.

Upon having daughters with a deep interest in figure skating, Don became a fixture of volunteerism in Okanagan figure skating community and throughout British Columbia being recognized for his long-term service to the sport. Later in life, Don loved to spend time with his grand-children and enjoying the view from the sundeck.

In his spare time Don was one of the original cabin builders on Mount Baldy in 1970 and enjoyed skiing, camping, hiking, and fishing throughout the southern interior. Don was an avid bridge player and achieved many awards including being a “Heat Winner” of the 1989 Epson worldwide Bridge Contest, “Senior Master Champion” in 1987 for the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Unit 571, and achieving “Bronze Life Master status” as a member of the ACBL in 2001. Our dad will be deeply missed for his unique sense of humour, commitment to doing the “right things” and his love of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Watermark Conference Centre (15 Park Place, Osoyoos)
