Tribute
IVERSON, Dorothy Virginia (nee Alaric)
(1920 – 2009)
of Oliver, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2009 surrounded by her family at the age 89 years.
Dot is fondly remembered by her daughters Karen Stockand and Gail Beck, her grandchildren Karilee Schuetze, Kevin Beck, Keitha Stockand, Tanya Stockand (Tom); and her great-grandchildren Rachel, Jordon, Cameron, Ronald, Austen, and Justin. Also mourning her loss are her brothers and sisters: Clair Alaric, Perle Nickells, Evelyn Weichel, Victor Alaric (Sally), and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and many friends.
Dot was predeceased by her husband Robert Iverson, her son-in-law Bill Stockand, and her nine brothers and three sisters.
She made many lifelong friends while working in the packing house during the early fruit growing era in Oliver. Dot also devoted herself to making a home for her family.
Dot was a member of the Oliver Historical Society, the Naturalist Club, and, when she was younger, the Fairview Golf Club. Dot enjoyed the quieter pursuits of sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, crocheting and reading library books and magazines. But she was also an avid gardener and swimmer. She participated in Oliver’s first polar bear swim while in her 80s. She was also a world traveller, visiting Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Eastern Canada, as well as many parts of British Columbia.
Donations are gratefully accepted for the Heart and Stroke Foundation (1–1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9), the Canadian Cancer Society (c/o Oliver Unit, P.O. Box 1872, Oliver, BC, V0H 1T0) or the BPSPCA (South Okanagan / Similkameen Branch,, 2200 Dartmouth Drive, Penticton, V2A 7W7)

Relation: neighbour
Dorothy was such a wonderful neighbour and an inspiration too. She loved Tuc-e-nuit Lake and for years put the rest of us to shame by being the first to swim and the last to stop at the end of the season She shared her garden knowledge and never failed to offer some cheerful words as she worked in the garden or went on her walks. She will be missed by those of us who lived near her. I send her family my condolences. Sincerely, Marion
