Dorothy Turcotte

June 15, 1937 - May 19, 2013

Tribute

Dorothy was born the second child and only daughter to David & Alice McPherson in Prince Albert, SK on the fifteenth day of June 1937. She passed away peacefully at the age of 75 at the Penticton Regional Hospital with her family at her bedside.

Dorothy moved with her parents to Melfort, SK in 1953 when her father was transferred there. It was in Melfort that she met her future husband Louis in high school. Dorothy graduated from high school with a good and loving group of girls. These gals would meet every three to five years in North AM, to spend three or four wonderful days together. These gals know who they are and she loved you all very much. After high school, Dorothy followed her mother into nursing. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Diploma of Nursing. Her first nursing position was in Nipawin, SK, where she worked until her marriage at Melfort, SK on November 14, 1959 to Louis Turcotte. His job took them to the west coast where they took up residence in Cloverdale, BC. Dorothy went to work at the White Rock Hospital until she had their first child Brian in 1960. Dorothy then became a housewife having two more children, Kenneth and Heather. When she moved with her family to Vernon, BC she decided to nurse part time and she did this at the Quesnel, Prince George, Revelstoke and Oliver Hospitals until her husband retired from his job in Osoyoos. She stated that she then going back nursing full time. She did this, giving kind and loving care to all her patients for the next twelve years.

While living in Cloverdale, Dorothy, her parents, two sons and her husband took a trip down the Oregon coast. That trip started a lifelong love for that area. There weren’t many years that Dorothy did not get to Oregon. After she retired, she spent as long as four months a year as an Oregon State Park Volunteer. Because she wanted to do something with her husband, Dorothy took up golf and curling. While it was a struggle for her, she grew to love both games. Dorothy and Lou ran the Wednesday night mixed league for the Osoyoos Golf Club for many years.

Dorothy will be forever loved and remembered by her husband Lou of 53+ years; daughter Heather (Kerry) St. Laurent, sons Kenneth and Brian and brother David (Dorothy) McPherson of Peace River, ON.

Her family would like to thank Dr. G. Tarr of Osoyoos for the care he gave her, also to Dr.’s Marschall and Broder and staff at 3M in the Penticton Hospital for their loving care at the end.
