Garthina Petrie

Tribute
Garthina R. Petrie of Osoyoos passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 after a long illness at the age of 79 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Robert George Petrie her daughter Wendy (Wayne) Millar, son Robin (Veena) Petrie, grandchildren Anthony MacNeil, Mellissa Latham, Matthew Petrie, Nicolas Petrie, Cristian Petrie, Ken (Susan) Kusnir and great grandchildren Madison Abby Latham and Patrick Kusnir. Garthina was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Lillian Berg, and by her daughter Patricia Susan Kyriakou.
Garthina was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, then moved as a child to Fort Langley, BC. She excelled in track and field, breaking the track record during her days as a student at Langley Prairie School. She married Robert in 1950. Over the years Garthina was employed in dietary at George Derby Hospital (Burnaby) and then as a laboratory assistant for 22 years at Royal Columbian Hospital (New Westminster) before retiring to Osoyoos in 1993.
Garthina and Robert vacationed in Mexico, Reno, and Disneyland together. Her other hobbies included reading and knitting.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Osoyoos United Church.
