George William Minns
October 16 1911 – March 4 2010

Passed away peacefully in his 99th year in Oliver, BC. Pre-deceased by his parents Charles George Minns and Frances Maud Minns (Hart). Pre-deceased by his former wife Betty and survived by children, Frances and grandson Rodney of Campbell River and Charles (Moira) and grandchildren Claire and John of Tsawwassen. Pre-deceased by wife Audrey in 1990 and wife Elizabeth in 2010. George was born in Fernie, BC and his father re-located the family to Prince Rupert three years later. He grew up in Prince Rupert where he developed a love for the forest and ocean and spent many of his formative years as a timber cruiser, sailing the waters of the North Coast, Queen Charlottes and the Central Coast . After graduating from UBC in 1939 with a degree in Forestry Engineering (number ), he left to serve his country overseas. It was in Scotland during the war that George and other Forestry Engineers began the early experiments with what has now become our reforestation program. On his return to Canada, he and his war bride Betty started a family in Nelson and eventually settled in the Okanagan. He worked in the forestry industry for many years and eventually took Government forestry posts in Jamaica and the Philippines. George was a true gentleman who had a passion for golf (Cherry Grove) and world travel. He will be missed as a loving father and grandfather. Thank you to all the caring staff at McKinney Place in Oliver. A memorial service to be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 17, 2010 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #97, Oliver, BC. with Rev.
