John Hovanes May 27, 1929 – June 21, 2010

On Monday June 21st, long time Oliver resident, Mr. John Hovanes passed away suddenly at the age of 81 years. Funeral Mass for the late John Hovanes was held on Saturday June 26th from Christ the King Catholic Church in Oliver at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Sebastian Puthenpura the celebrant. Interment followed in the Oliver cemetery with a reception held afterwards in the lower church hall.
Prayers were held on Friday evening June 25th at 7:00 p.m. from Christ the King Church.
John was predeceased by his first wife Lorraine Marie in 1976.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family including his wife Betty; daughter Betty; his sons Len, Ron and Blaine; step-children, Glen, Judy, Cheryl, Albert, Yvonne and Denise; nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his brothers Mike, Leonard, Harvey and George and his sister Patricia.
John was an orchardist for some fifty years and still resided on
the original family farm north of town.
John was a Life member of the Knights of Columbus, The Elks Lodge and a member of
the Royal Canadian Legion.
He was an active member and lector at Christ the King Church for decades.
John was a Cub Scout leader for nine years and for many years he volunteered as a canvasser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
John loved to play cards, travel and spend time with family.

Dear Aunty Betty & family, There are just not enough words to express the loss of our dear Uncle Johnny. The world is a much darker place today and heaven just got a little brighter. He will be forever missed but always in our hearts. He was such a wonderful loving person and I will hold forever my memories of all the times we spent together and all the many happy times spent on the orchard, including the time Betty & I got heat stroke. Our Thoughts and prayers are with all of you. You all have a new guardian angel watching over you. I deeply will miss my Uncle Johnny.
