Tribute
I have had so many things on my life’s to-do list but, in the end, I ran out of time. The time I did have was filled with joys and sorrows, love and friendship. My life was blessed.
Growing up in rural Alberta in the 30’s gave me many of the character traits I have carried throughout my life. Nursing school, illness, and marriage was followed by an eastward journey across the country. The trials and tests were many, but so too were the joys of raising a family in Ontario. A three year stint in South America (Dios mio!) added greatly to both my history and the richness of my life. Then life threw me a curve. As a young widow with a maturing brood I found myself at a crossroads. The strong pull of my family roots led me back to the west.
I found my way to Osoyoos in 1982 and made it my home. I embraced the community and it welcomed me. I appreciated living every day in this beautiful valley. My early years here provided me with many of my lifelong friendships. During that time I worked as a registered nurse at the Country Squire Villa and Sagebrush Lodge. Later, my volunteer time with the hospice, 1 to 1 reading program at Osoyoos elementary school, helping at the Senior’s Centre, as well as my involvement with the choir and CWL were full of joy and very special people. That’s what it’s all about, right?
Now, my circle of angels is complete, as I have joined my seven siblings in heaven, along with my parents and many family and friends. There are so many people that I care for dearly – you know who you are.
I am so very proud of my children (Janice, Neil, Brian, Lesley, and Gail) and the people they have become, plus the gift of my grandchildren (Nicole, Danielle, Stephanie, Andrea, Evan, Brendan, Kevin, Maxine, Drew, Kara, Liam, Kaitlin, Thomas and Blake) and great grand children (Avery and William). They all have made my life so purposeful and complete.
I am happy to invite you to join my family in a celebration of my time here. Prayer service will be held on Thursday June 13 at 7 p.m. with Mass on Friday June 14 at 11:00 am. A reception at the church will follow. Both celebrations will take place at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, BC.
Because of the outstanding personal and supportive care lovingly given by the staff at the South Okanagan Hospital for Palliative Care, please consider a donation to them (911 McKinney Road, Oliver, BC V0H 1T3)

Remembering you Aunty with great fondness. Your sharp sense of humor (a Meraw trait forsure). The comfort you gave to me when our Lindsay died. Dean and my last visit with you, the summer of 2011. Joyce was my special dear friend, and CWL sister when my husband and I lived in beautiful Osoyoos and she always kept in touch after we moved back to Manitoba to be closer to our family. We enjoyed being Facebook friends, sharing news and pictures of our families. I will miss my dear, beautiful angel. REST in Peace Joyce, till we meet again. I didn’t know Joyce very well, in fact I only had the pleasure of meeting her once, 2 summers ago when I had the opportunity to visit Kaitlin and Kara in Osoyoos for a few days. She had never met me before but opened up her home as if I was part of the family, one of the many who were visiting that week, but just as important. Such a kind and giving lady, with such great character. I know she will be missed.
