Tribute

“There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.”
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Linda Sue Smart on May 18th, 2012, in Oliver, BC at the age of 63 years. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends after a courageous 12 year battle with COPD.
She was predeceased by her parents, James & Emma Moncrief, her brother Jimmy Moncrief and granddaughter, Kayla Laurent.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Roy Smart of Oliver, BC, her daughter Michelle Laurent (Russ) of St. Albert, AB, daughter, Nicole Kriesel (Mike) of Oliver, BC, grandchildren, Savannah, Alyssa, Jenna, Jaden, Cole, Layla, Jessa, Blake & Maya. She also is survived by her siblings of Washington, USA, brother Dwayne Moncrief (Ruth), sister Barbara Uloth (Rod), and sister Brenda Foley (Mike), nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, USA and Australia.
The third of 5 children, Linda was born in Fort Lewis, Washington on March 20th, 1949. She graduated from Bryan Adams High School near Dallas Texas, moved back to Washington State where she worked for Boeing. Here, she met her future husband Roy, a Canadian who was down visiting. After a short courtship, the two were married July 13th, 1968 in North Vancouver, where they lived until 1981 when they moved to the Okanagan Valley. Linda found her calling later in life and decided to go back to school to earn a diploma in the field of Social Work. She worked as a Youth and Family Counselor in Penticton, BC, for the remainder of her career.
She was such an amazing woman with a tenacious spirit, remarkable strength and unfaltering love for her friends and family. Lord knows she couldn’t carry a tune, yet she would proudly serenade anyone who was having a birthday and she always had a way of making sure that her “2 cents” was heard. She was a beautiful lady, inside and out, and will be terribly missed.
As per Linda’s request, a memorial will be held in Oliver at a future date this summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association in her memory.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the South Okanagan General Hospital, for all your care and support.
