Loretta Sylvia Szalai

April 11, 1941 - April 26, 2024

Tribute

On Friday, April 26, 2024, Loretta Szalai passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer.
She is predeceased by her parents Leslie and Marcella Szalai; brothers Albert and Wilfred Salary; and sister Evelyn Goodridge. Loretta is survived by her sister Norah Skuhala, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Loretta worked at Burnaby General Hospital first as a nurse and later as a porter. She also managed an apartment building while she worked at the hospital.
She enjoyed travelling, with Hawaii being one of her favourite destinations. Another highlight of her travelling days was her trip to the Holy Land.
Loretta was a lifetime Catholic. Her faith was very important to her which included many Marion devotions.
Earlier in life, Loretta did a lot of sewing, most notably, drape-making for the apartment she managed. She was also a talented crocheter and gardener and loved spending time in her small garden amongst all her outdoor flowers.

There will be a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church followed by a graveside committal at the Oliver Cemetery.

Norah we are so sorry to hear this. I remember how much your sister enjoyed her travels. She often showed us her photos and shared tales of her trips. I know how hard it is to lose a sibling. Hugs to you.

From: Jill (Webb) Veitch
Relation: close family friend

I am so sorry, Norah, to see this news. My brother just let me know tonight. We would have absolutely been to the funeral to pay our respects for our aunty Loretta. As you know, she was a big part of the Webb family when we were children. I loved the time we spent with her, and it was lovely to meet you when you both visited a few years ago in Kelowna. Rest well, lovely Loretta. We love you!
