Marjorie Piazza
October 20, 1926 - June 7, 2013
Tribute
Marj passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2013 at McKinney Place at the age of 86. Marj was born October 20th, 1926, in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, but spent most of her childhood on a farm in Cloverdale. In 1953, she and John moved to Osoyoos and made their home here.
Marj was predeceased by her husband John and her daughter Cathi. She will be missed by her sister Ruth (Cy), her daughters Sharron and Joan, her sons-in-laws Bill and Steve, as well as her grandson Austin and his wife Stephanie, and great-grandchildren Jonas, Eden and Arlo.
At an early age Marj became a school teacher and taught in Cloverdale, Hope, Grand Forks and Osoyoos. At the Osoyoos Elementary School she taught many students in grade 2 to grade 6. When Marj retired from teaching she and Johnny traveled to many places including: Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Australia. They also enjoyed going on numerous cruises.
Marj loved horses and was interested in and supportive of all of her daughters’ equestrian activities. Driving mules on the farm, riding as a jockey in her teens, she rode horses right up to her 84th year. She was an active participant of Blue Sage Riders and Desert Park supporting horse activities in the community. She was a gifted and published writer and poet.
The family thanks the staff at McKinney Place and Doctor Tarr for their loving and personalized care. Marj often remarked how much she enjoyed her interactions with the staff at McKinney Place.
According to Marj’s wishes there will be no public service. Private cremation arrangements are entrusted to Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service. Condolences and tributes may be sent to the family by visiting www.nunes-pottinger.com . In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Sharon and Joan,
My deepest sympathies on the loss of your wonderful mother. I enjoyed the moments that we had when I looked after her at McKinney. She always had a smile for me and we reminisced about the old school days. She is at peace now and pain free. May you find comfort in your family and friends….

Relation: An admirer
It is with regret that I send my admiration too late. Over 40 yeRs ago, as a young teenager in Australia, I read a wonderful proem by Marj Piazza in the Western Horseman magazine. I loved it so much I had it enlarged and framed and it has adorned the walls of 4 houses. The poem is called Mothers Horse. It is overlooking me as I write this . My. Children and grandchildren ride beautiful educated horses and ponies and I have a wonderful ugly old hack that I think is gorgeous . My friends and I trail ride in the bush and I couldn’t be happier and that wonderful poem Marj wrote all those years ago has become osmosis for me , cos I’m living her prose!!! To Marj family and friends I send my love and let you know that one little girl in Australia has endeared herself to your Marj and I am so sorry that I was never able to tell Marj how much her poem meant to me all those years ago and how it is still in my life.
