Tribute

Mona Mary Dede (nee Topping), passed away peacefully, December 1^st, 2013 in Vernon, BC at Heron Grove, her residence since May of this year.  Born December 4^th, 1922 in Kindersley, SK, the family moved west to Oliver, BC in 1938.

Mona leaves behind, her husband of 40 years, (Edward Dede/Addy), son Larry Raincock,  her daughter Denny Raincock (grand-daughter Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe), special niece Jody (Jim) Sloper, Ed’s children, Bev (Dennis) Donnelly, John (Lanette) Dede, Barbara Hill, Kelly (Stu) Marshall and many more nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mona’s lack of interest in technology changed considerably, once her grand-daughters’ (Nayo) professional basketball was available via live-stream.  Mona and Ed spent many hours glued to the computer screen cheering on Nayo! She is so very proud of Nayo’s dedication and accomplishments.

Mona was a valued and long contributing member of the community of Oliver, helping to establish the businesses of K and K Market and the SuperValu, head post mistress during WW II, a lifetime of volunteer work with the Oliver United Church and her faithful congregational commitments. Mona was a very loyal friend to many in Oliver, particularly her bridge pals of well over 40 years.

One of many, wonderful stories Mona recounted over the years, was her time as the Oliver post mistress (1939-1945) with her best pal Maggie (Margaret Green) and the comfort she received in being able to assist families stay connected with their loved ones during WWII. Mona, Doreen and friends enjoyed 54 years of antics and much laughter over their weekly bridge and coffee visits.

The Oliver United Church (built by Topping Construction in 1942) has always been a place of much peace, comfort and pride for Mona, Ed and their families. Mona was a dedicated volunteer, faithful congregational member and loyal friend to many.

Mona is resting peacefully now and reunited in heaven with her parents Amy and Joe as well as siblings, Dick Topping, Ruby Echlin, Doreen Harvey, Josie Perkins and Ronnie Topping.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone at Heron Grove (Vernon), Dr. Dhaliwal (Vernon), Dr. Dimma (Oliver) and the South Okanagan Hospital (Oliver) for their care and compassion for Mona's comfort and wellbeing.

A memorial service will be held immediately following the Sunday morning service at the Oliver United Church, on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 12:30pm, followed by a luncheon in the downstairs of the Church, 511 Church Avenue, officiated by Rev. Heather Burton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
