Pollyanna Kilgour

On Sunday October 18th, Mrs. Pollyanna Kilgour (nee Johnston) of Oliver passed away at the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver at the age of 87 years.
Pollyanna was born at home in the Millarston District of Grande Prairie County Alberta on November 14, 1921.
While in her twenties, she married Jack Kilgour in 1945.
After working in outcamps, they moved to Fort St. John in 1955 where she kept busy being a Brownie leader for two years and a Jr. Girls softball coach for four years. She was also deeply involved with the CWL during this time.
Pollyanna was a founding member of the Royal Purple which she was a proud charter member in Grande Prairie. She was awarded a Life Membership in the CWL in 1984 and received Dispensations for her church work from two Popes and was honoured to be chosen to meet the Pope when in Vancouver.
When she was in her prime she was a very athletic lady, excelling at softball and curling. She and her husband Jack were a skilled bridge team.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Clarence, Marvin and Ken.
Pollyanna is survived by her daughter Jackie; siblings Harold, Dorothy and Jim as well as nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Donations are gratefully accepted to the Palliative Care Unit at SOGH or to Christ the King Catholic Church.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday October 22 at Christ the King Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday October 23, 2009 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery. A reception will be hosted by the CWL at the church lower hall following the interment.
