Tribute

It is with sadness, love, and wonderful memories that we announce the passing of Richard Schmidt at the age of 73.  Rick passed away peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital with family at his side after a 3 year courageous battle with cancer.   He fought the disease with grace and courage, always putting on a brave face for family and friends.

Rick was born in Penticton, BC on March 1, 1942 to Ethel and Richard Schmidt.  After graduating from high school in Osoyoos, BC, Rick attended Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta.

Rick was very active in the community and was a past member of the Elks and is an Osoyoos Royal Canadian Legion Branch 173 Member.

Rick had various jobs in his lifetime including bartending, cook, fisherman and orchardist until he found his career as a fruit inspector with Agriculture Canada.

He was currently retired and enjoyed travelling, fishing, camping, gardening, woodworking and making vintage model cars. 

Rick was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Richard (Dick) Schmidt and two of his step brothers, Lorne and Gordon Wright.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Ethel Lariviere (husband, Randy) and son, Eugene Schmidt (fiancée, Jecinda); three step-children; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildrenCelebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 4 between 2pm and 4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 173, 8310 78 Ave, Osoyoos, BC, V0H 1V0 downstairs at the canteen.
