Tribute
On Saturday January 5, 2013, Mr. Roger Joseph Houle of Oliver passed away peacefully at the McKinney Place ECU at the age of 85 years.
He was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth, father Albert, two brothers Leo and Lee, sister Jeannette, and daughter Marcelle.
Roger will be fondly remembered by his loving family including wife Betty; seven children: Marni [Larry] Anderson, Roger [Barb] Houle, Norm [Shirley] Houle, Jeannine [Royce] Coghill, Theresa [Tim] Fitzgerald, Dan Houle, Mary [Mick] Gzowski; twenty grandchildren: Glen [Jill], Pat, Alicia Anderson; Jenna, Kim Houle; Nikki [Paul]Cescon, Terry, Randy, Brady Houle; James Houle & Regan, Kaitlyn Coghill; Colin, Trevor, Myles Fitzgerald; Adam, Maxine Houle; Casimir, Simon, Matthew Gzowski; two great-grandchildren: Parker Anderson, Natalia Cescon; one brother: Al Houle; sisters Germaine Nault & Rita Houle.
Over the years Roger worked for Coca-Cola Edmonton, Grande Prairie & Dawson Creek; Manager at the Eatons Store, Esterhazy, Sask., before moving to Oliver in 1968 where he owned/operated Valley Auction until retiring in 1988.
Roger enjoyed many trips to visit friends & family in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, & Quebec. Highlighted by cross-country trip in 1991 from BC to Nova Scotia
Active member of Christ the King Catholic Church; a Past Grand Knight of the Oliver Knights of Columbus and a three time recipient of the Family of the Month Award through the Knights of Columbus
Roger was a family man who enjoyed building and fixing anything for family and friends.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday January 11, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Br. Gerald Craig at 1:00 P.M. Saturday January 12, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment and committal at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery will follow the Mass. A reception in the church lower hall hosted by the CWL will follow the interment.
