Ross Mcivor
March 14, 1923 - February 16, 2014
Tribute
Ross Sinclair McIvor passed away on February 16, 2014, lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty, son Colin (Laura), daughter Hilda (Tim), grandchildren Cathryn (Ryan), Jeannie (Matthew), Bronwyn, and Thomas, great-granddaughter, Madelyn, and sister Mavis. Soon after Ross was born in Evansburgh, AB, in 1923, his family moved to Wayne and then East Coulee, in the coal country around Drumheller. In the cold winters he and his brothers learned to love hockey and to skate beautifully, while in the hot summers they splashed in the Rosebud Creek. With the coming of WWII, he signed up to be an RCAF wireless technician. After the war he went out to Wells, BC, where he worked in the electrical plant of the local gold mine, fixed people’s radios, worked on the first historical committee to preserve Barkerville, and met and married Betty. Children and responsibility led him to UBC and a career in pharmacy. In 1964 the family moved to Oliver, where for 27 years Ross worked happily with fellow pharmacist Harold Ruck. Retirement in 1991 brought more days of golf with Harold and other friends, occasional trips abroad—most memorably to Scotland in 1998—many happy days in “the back 40” nurturing tomatoes and cantaloupes, and frequent visits from his well-loved children and their families. In his final years at Park Avenue Estates, Ross enjoyed daily walks and the friendship of many kind friends and neighbours. No service by request. Donations gratefully accepted for McKinney Place.
